Terms of use — Sentio
Last updated: October 5, 2026
These terms are between you and NeuroPhonetics LLC (https://NeuroPhonetics.com), the maker of the Sentio app for Android. Using the app means accepting them. Questions: .
1. What Sentio is
Sentio teaches the pronunciation of American English from the beginning: a vowel alone, then a consonant beside it, then words of one, two, three and four or more syllables. It plays model recordings, listens to you say them, and tells you where your vowel landed. It is a study tool.
2. Who may use it
Anyone over 13, or younger with a parent's agreement. You need a device with a microphone and, to be judged, a connection to the Sentio service.
3. Your licence
You may install and use Sentio on the devices you own, for your own study or teaching. You may not resell it, take it apart to rebuild it as another product, or copy its model recordings and reference out of it to distribute them.
4. Your voice is yours, and we keep none of it
What you say into Sentio stays yours. Sending an attempt to the service gives us no claim over it: we use it to answer that one request and keep nothing. The service stores no data of yours at all, and the only data that will ever rest on a server of ours is the record a payment requires, if a paid version is ever sold. Your progress and any recordings you choose to keep live on your phone, and copies go only to your own Drive, your own folder or your own other device.
5. The material
The course, the reference chart, the word list and the model recordings are ours and are the same for everyone; the app only reads them. The model recordings include speech from the CMU ARCTIC databases, used under their licence and credited in the app.
6. The service
Judging happens on a NeuroPhonetics server. We try to keep it available and quick, but we do not promise that it is always up, and we may change, pause or stop it. Nothing on your phone is lost when that happens; an attempt simply cannot be judged until it is back.
7. No guarantee of results
Sentio measures where a vowel lands and compares it with four American speakers. A measurement can be wrong — in a noisy room, with a cold, with a microphone far away — and accents are not mistakes. Use your ears as well. Sentio is not a substitute for a teacher or a speech therapist, and it makes no promise about your progress.
8. Purchases
Where Sentio is paid for through Google Play, Google is the seller and their refund rules apply. This version is a full test build and nothing in it is sold.
9. No warranty, and the limit of what we owe
Sentio is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, NeuroPhonetics is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability is limited to what you paid for the app. Nothing here removes rights that the law where you live gives you and does not allow to be removed — consumer rights in the European Union, for example.
10. Ending
You may stop using Sentio at any time by uninstalling it. We may end your licence if you use the app to break these terms or the law.
11. Law
The law of the State of Minnesota governs these terms, without removing the protection of the law where you live.
12. Changes and contact
If these terms change, the date above changes and the new text appears in the app and at NeuroPhonetics.com. Continuing to use Sentio after a change means accepting it.
