Privacy policy — Sentio
Last updated: October 18, 2026
In short: Sentio listens to you say a sound and tells you where it landed. The listening happens on a server — so the recording of that one attempt travels there, is measured and judged, and is not kept. Nothing about you travels with it: no account, no name, no identifier. Nothing of yours is stored on that server at all. Everything you build up — your progress, your attempts, your own vowel space, your streak — stays on your phone, unless you choose to put a copy in your own Google Drive, in a file on the phone, or hand it to another of your devices over your own Wi-Fi. We cannot see any of it.
1. Who we are
Sentio is made by NeuroPhonetics LLC, a limited liability company registered in the State of Minnesota, United States (https://NeuroPhonetics.com) — the company behind every program in this family and the seller on Google Play. This policy covers the Sentio app for Android and the Sentio service it talks to. Questions: .
2. What we collect about you: nothing
No account, no name, no email address, no advertising identifier, no analytics, no crash reporting, no tracking of any kind. We do not build a profile of you and we have nothing to sell. The service cannot tell one person's attempt from another's — it is not told who is speaking, and there is nowhere for it to write anything down.
3. What leaves your phone: the attempt you are being judged on
To judge an attempt, Sentio sends the recording of that one attempt to the Sentio service, with what you were practising. The recording is used to answer that one request and is not stored afterwards. No identifier travels with it. The service is not told who spoke. With the attempt go four numbers that summarise your own vowel space, so you are compared in your own voice. They are used for that one answer and are not stored either.
- What you were practising means: the vowel, the step of the course, how strictly to judge, whether your voice is a man's, a woman's or a child's, and the consonants around the vowel.
- The four numbers are your average and spread in two measurements. Never the vowels they were built from, never your history, never your progress.
- To play a model, Sentio asks the service for that recording. That request says which model clip — nothing about you.
- Ordinary server logs record that a request happened, its size and the address it came from — the usual method, path and status line of a web server. No log line carries your voice.
Update check (website and test versions only). When you press "Check now", or once a week if you switch that on, the app reads one public file listing the newest version from our download page. It sends nothing about you or your device — no account, no identifier, no usage, not even the app's own version; the comparison is made on your phone. "Download" opens the file in your browser, and Android asks you before anything is installed. The version from Google Play has no update check; Google Play updates it.
Help us, only when you tap it (Settings → Help and about). "Rate us" opens Sentio's page in Google Play, and only when Google Play installed this copy; to know that, Sentio asks Android which store installed it, and the answer stays on your phone. "Tell a friend" opens Android's share sheet with one line and the address of Sentio's page; you choose the app and the friend. "Suggestions" opens your own email app, addressed to . None of them sends us anything unless you send that email yourself.
4. What the server does, and what it holds between requests
It finds the vowel in your recording, measures where it landed, compares that with where the vowel lives for the speakers of the reference, and answers with numbers and a sentence. That is the whole of it. The recording is held in memory for the length of that one request; nothing is written to disk.
This is tested, not promised. A test in our code watches the service's storage while a recording is measured and fails if any audio-shaped file appears anywhere the service can write, and a second test fails if a way to change the reference recordings ever appears in the service.
What the server carries is ours and the same for everyone: the course, the reference chart, the word list and the model recordings. It is read-only: no request can change it, and nothing you do is added to it. There is no database, no queue and no backup of anything of yours, because there is nothing of yours to keep.
5. What stays on your phone
Your progress on each step, the results of your attempts, your own vowel space and your streak — in the app's private storage on the device. Android's own cloud backup does not copy them.
Your recordings are not kept unless you switch on "Keep my recordings". Then a small compressed copy of each attempt is kept on the phone — on its SD card if you choose so and the phone has one — and you can delete them all, or the older ones, at any time in Settings → Storage, without losing your progress.
If the app crashes or hits an error, it keeps a short technical record of it — what failed and where in the code, the app and Android versions, and the time, with no text, words, books, recordings or file names of yours — on your device only, in storage that is not backed up; it is never sent automatically, and leaves your device only if you choose to send it in a problem report you can read first.
You choose how long these records are kept — 7, 30 or 90 days, 30 until you choose — and older ones are deleted on the device. The choice reaches your paired devices with the next Wi-Fi sync.
6. Copies you choose to make
- Google Drive: after you sign in with Google, Sentio saves one file with your progress in a
Neurophonetics/Sentiofolder in your own Drive. It uses thedrive.filepermission, which reaches only files Sentio itself created — it cannot see the rest of your Drive. Your recordings go there too only if you switch on "Recordings to Drive"; that is off unless you turn it on. - A file on this phone:
Documents/Neurophonetics/Sentio, visible in the Files app. It never carries recordings. - Wi-Fi sync: your progress can be handed straight to another of your devices on the same Wi-Fi. Nothing is uploaded anywhere, and recordings are never sent this way.
- Logs from your paired devices: when you write a problem report and choose another of your devices, Sentio asks that device, over the same Wi-Fi pairing, for its problem and crash log, redacted as this phone's is, and adds it to the report you read before sending. Only devices you paired and switched on in "Devices" are asked; nothing goes through a server of ours, and nothing is sent until you send the email yourself.
In every case the copy goes to your Drive, your folder or your other device, under your own account. We never see it, and nothing is synchronised unless you switch it on.
7. What Sentio never does
It does not identify you by your voice, and it could not: what it keeps of an attempt is two frequencies and a result, and it keeps them on your phone. It does not send your recordings to any other company. Nothing in Sentio is used to train anything, ours or anyone else's. It does not advertise, and it contains no analytics or tracking of any kind.
8. Google Play
If you get Sentio from Google Play, Google handles the download and any payment under their own privacy policy. We see only the order information Google gives developers, never your card.
9. Permissions
- Microphone — to record an attempt, only while you are recording one. Asked for the first time you record, never before.
- Internet — to reach the Sentio service, and your own Drive or your other device if you switch those on; in a test version, also the download page when you check for updates.
Sentio does not ask for the camera, your contacts, your location or your files.
10. Security
Requests to the service travel over an encrypted connection when the service is reached over the internet. On a home network you may point the app at a service on your own machine, in which case the connection stays inside your network. Wi-Fi sync between your devices is locked to a code you type on the receiving device.
11. Keeping and deleting your data
- On the server: nothing to delete. Your recordings are not kept, and neither is anything that came with them.
- On the phone: Settings → Storage deletes recordings; uninstalling the app removes its private storage. Files you saved in Documents, and copies in your Drive, stay until you delete them yourself.
12. Your rights
Since we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to show, correct or delete. If you believe otherwise, write to and we will look into it.
13. The one exception, for when it exists
If a paid version is ever sold, the record a payment requires will be stored — and that is the only data that will ever rest on a server of ours. This page will say what it is before it does. There is no payment today and nothing of the kind is collected.
14. Children
Sentio is not aimed at children under 13 and collects nothing from anyone. A child may use it with a parent; the "a child" voice setting only changes how the recording is measured.
15. Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes and the new text appears in the app and at NeuroPhonetics.com.
