Terms of use — Lectio
Last updated: October 6, 2026
These terms are between you and NeuroPhonetics (https://NeuroPhonetics.com), the maker of the Lectio app for Android. Using the app means accepting them. Questions: .
1. What Lectio is
Lectio reads books you already have, turns a chapter into the words and phrases worth learning, tells you how much of a text you already know, and — with learning mode — explains its hardest sentences. It is a study tool.
2. Who may use it
Anyone over 13, or younger with a parent's agreement.
3. Your licence
You may install and use Lectio on the devices you own, for your own study or teaching. You may not resell it or take it apart to rebuild it as another product.
4. The books you open are your responsibility
Open only books you own or are otherwise allowed to read and copy. Lectio sends the file to its service to be read and deletes it as the request ends, and since September 24, 2026 keeps nothing about it in memory either (see the privacy policy); it keeps no library, no copy, no index, shares nothing and offers nothing to anyone else. What you are permitted to do with a book is between you and whoever holds its rights — including whether you may send a sentence of it to a third company, which is what learning mode does and is the reason it is switched off unless somebody sets a key for it.
The same goes for everything else you open in Lectio: subtitle files, documents, web pages, shared text and song lyrics. Open only what you have the right to use for your personal study; Lectio doesn't check where a file or a text comes from. Lectio never plays a film's sound and never fetches subtitles or films from the internet. The free classics from Project Gutenberg are in the public domain in the United States; check the law where you live before you copy or share one.
5. Your lists are yours
Your word lists, known words, reading history and notes stay yours, on your phone, and in your own Drive or your own folder if you switch a copy on. Sending a chapter to the service to be studied gives us no claim over it, and we do not keep it. We store no data of yours on any server; if a paid version ever exists, the record a payment requires will be the only exception, and the privacy policy will say what it is before it is collected.
6. Learning mode
The list of a chapter's hard sentences is free and picked by rules. The notes under them come with Lectio Pro; the free version of Lectio never asks for them, or uses any other paid service.
The explanations come from a language model, which can be wrong, miss an idiom, or read a sentence the way a machine would rather than the way its author meant. Treat a note as a second opinion, not as an authority. Never a translation: the notes are in English about English, deliberately.
Switching learning mode on means the chosen sentences of your chapter are sent to Anthropic to be explained — the privacy policy says exactly which, when, and what the daily limit is. The service allows a fixed number of model calls a day and stops for the day when they are used; the app says so, and the rest of Lectio goes on working, because choosing the hard sentences costs nothing and needs nobody's model.
Practice sentences (Lectio Pro) are written by the same kind of model and have the same limits: they are checked for length, for the word they practise and against a short list of unsuitable words, but a model can still write an odd or unnatural sentence. Making them sends the chosen words and the one sentence of the chapter each comes from to Anthropic; the privacy policy says exactly what, and how the five sets a day are counted.
7. The service
Reading and studying happen on a NeuroPhonetics server — or on your own, if you point the app at a copy you run, which it is built to allow. We try to keep ours available, but we do not promise it is always up, and we may change, pause or stop it. Your books and word lists are on your phone and are not lost when the service is down.
8. No guarantee of results
Coverage figures, difficulty scores and study lists are worked out by rules and counting. They are a guide, not a measurement of your ability, and no promise about your progress.
9. Purchases
Where Lectio is paid for through Google Play, Google is the seller and their refund rules apply. Where it is bought from NeuroPhonetics.com, the terms of that sale are given at the time.
10. No warranty, and the limit of what we owe
Lectio is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, NeuroPhonetics is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability is limited to what you paid for the app. Nothing here removes rights the law where you live gives you and does not allow to be removed.
11. Ending
You may stop using Lectio at any time by uninstalling it. We may end your licence if you use the app to break these terms or the law.
12. Law
The law of the place where NeuroPhonetics is established governs these terms, without removing the protection of the law where you live.
13. Changes and contact
If these terms change, the date above changes and the new text appears in the app and at NeuroPhonetics.com. Continuing to use Lectio after a change means accepting it.
